Pit bulls are often considered vicious and aggressive dogs, ready to attack anything and everything.

Although there are advocates that are trying to prove that any dog can become dangerous if it’s raised to be, media seems to have a tendency to publish only news about attacks and killings. And what do you expect, attack sells!

But this is not the case. A pit bull named Blitz owned by an Ottawa woman is described as a mild-mannered, sweet-tempered dog. He has never been aggressive and he is very protective with his human.

He is very friendly and he happily greets any visitors with sniffs and licks. When his mom opened the door, he heard screams and cries of distress coming from the street, so he rushed past his owner, to defend a woman being attacked by her separated husband.

An eye-witness told that the pit bull ran over to them and began furiously barking at the aggressor. At that moment, Steven Paul Schumacher, a disturbed husband, loosened his grip on his victim, who then ran into Blitz’s home for safety.

The protective pit bull firmly held his ground and he growled furiously at Steven just until the police arrived.

It didn’t take long to realize what was happening, since Steven was pacing outside Blitz’s home, carrying a knife in his pocket, so he was instantly taken into custody.

What Schumacher’s intentions were are still not known, but what is known is that a dog that many fear, saw fear, and became a hero!

Not only that Blitz saved the woman’s life, but he also helped the police to arrest Schumacher, who was wanted for a felony, home invasion, and domestic assault.

Blitz’s mom, who prefered to remain anonymous, shared her story hoping that it will help reduce the stigma and the stereotypes attached to the bully breed.

Pit bull BO and a twelve-year-old girl help save unconscious, drowning stray dog

A twelve-year-old girl helped rescue a stray dog from drowning after the neighbor’s pit bull dog alerted her about the animal in danger

Destinee Billiot of Arabi, Louisiana, was outside when Bo, a neighbor’s pit bull, started to bark frantically in front of her, trying to get her attention.

She realized something must be wrong, so she started to follow him. Soon, she was standing in front of a disturbing sight – a stray dog was drowning in a nearby canal.

She ran home to her family for help, and a neighbor helped her get a rope around the unconscious dog’s head to keep it above water until more help arrived.

Eventually, Animal Control Officer Kyle Menant, with the assistance of others, was able to pull the drowning dog out of the water and bring it to safety.

He was later rushed to St. Bernard Animal Services in Violet and nicknamed “Lucky” because was indeed really fortunate to still be alive!

Word of Destinee’s and Bo’s heroic actions got back to Tia Torres, founder of Villalobos Rescue Center in New Orleans, who met with the little girl and congratulate her for her brave efforts to save the dog’s life.

Carolyn Penn-Martin, co-founder of Paws in the Park, is also a fan:

“I have always loved the Gandhi quote ‘the greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated’. I feel that is surely the case here in its simplest form. To know that a 12-year-old girl helped an animal from drowning shows that someone has raised her with impeccable morals for when she reaches adulthood. This story tugs at my heart!”

Two brave Pit Bulls save a Chihuahua mix from the jaws of a coyote

Pit Bulls save a Chihuahua dog from an almost fatal Coyote attack. They are true heroes!

Attacks from coyotes are becoming more and more common near cities, or in places where hunting is prohibited. In the wild, where they are often hunted and trapped, they are elusive, but in the urban areas, they can become aggressive sometimes.

Usually, they are spotted on the alleys or other open spaces, being attracted by open garbage or bird feeders. But this time, a coyote attacked and nearly killed a woman’s dog!

A young Chihuahua-Terrier mix named Buster was assaulted and taken by a wild coyote in the suburban town of Littleton.

“He woke me up at 6:30 to do his thing. I let him out and I came out with him,” said Jodi Robinette of Littleton. “And about a minute later, he screamed like I’ve never heard an animal scream. I instantly knew that an animal got him.”

At that point, Robinette started running after Buster and the coyote behind her home.

“And right when I came around the corner, the coyote had my dog in his mouth, shaking him as he was running, she said. “And then, I see the coyote at the very middle of this field drop my dog.”

Apparently, the neighbor’s pit bulls were going after the coyote to save the poor pup from the vicious abductor! They ran towards the coyote that probably realized he was outnumbered and released Buster. Then, he just ran off, scared by the dogs.

As for the pit bulls, they protected Buster under a bush, checking in he is ok.

“The pits followed my dog underneath a bush, guarding him, [They] lay next to him, licked him and protected him. They were circling him and sitting by him. Making sure he was all right,” said Robinette.

Robinette, who is a neurosurgery coordinator, quickly wrapped the gravely injured Chihuahua in a towel and rushed him to Columbine Animal Hospital where it was immediately treated for pain and scheduled for surgery.

But thanks to the brave pit bull dogs that quickly realized what happened, Buster is now on the road to recovery!

They were “guardian angels for her dog,” Dr. Bregitzer says, “disguised as pit bulls.”

Robinette is full of gratitude for the heroic pits, who stepped in quicker than she could ever have.

Levi, a 15-year-old, three-legged pitbull dog saves his family lives during armed robbery attack

The family credits 3-legged pit bull dog Levi for saving their lives during an armed robbery attack in Janesville, Wisconsin

Levi, a 15-year-old pit bull, doesn’t really looks like such a threat with only three legs, but his family credits him with saving their lives after an armed robber broke into their home.

In Janesville, Wisconsin, Darcy Cherry and her boyfriend Bob Stenzel, were at home during the afternoon, when a masked man dressed all in black and holding a gun walked through their back door.

“I was just praying and praying and praying for us all to be safe,” Cherry said. “His gun was drawn on us and demanded us to the ground and repeatedly asked us where’s the safe and where is the money.”

Unfortunately, they had forgotten to lock their door, but there was no money or safe to give the man. At that moment, Levi started to growl and bark at the burglar, who was pointing a gun towards his owners.

“He said, ‘Call off your dog.  I’ll shoot.  I’ll shoot,” said Darcy.

She and Bob called Levi to them, but he refused to listen so the intruder fired at him and then took off running.

Thankfully, the bullet missed any vital organ, scratching Levi’s head and hitting his shoulder. He is on medication but he is expected to make a full recovery. He has a tube in place to drain the gunshot wound but survived and he is in good spirits!

Actually, it’s not the first time Levi has been the family hero.

Back in 2014, he took a fall off the edge of a trail and toppled over the side of a cliff. The fall shattered his leg and sadly it required amputation. But he’s a true survivor, and clearly, he loves his family so much.

Darcy believes that Levi’s fall prevented her son from falling as well because he was just feet behind him.

If that was not enough, he also survived being dognapped in broad daylight! Fortunately, a neighbor saw the vehicle’s number so police stopped the van and brought Levi back home the same day.

“This dog is just meant to be with us. He is not meant to go anywhere, it’s just crazy”

“He is amazing. He bounces back so fast. I wish I could have his strength and his mobility to just come back and be so loving-natured” said Cherry.

“It’s a feeling you can’t really express in words. I mean, thank God he was here and he protected us,” added  Stenzel.
